Item presentation at the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne: Max Frisch’s Jaguar 420

A special island for the future presentation of the vehicle shows documents from the Max Frisch Archive.

Jaguar 420 im Verkehrshaus

The Swiss Museum of Transport is to receive a new addition to its collection – a 1967 Jaguar 420 once owned by the famous Swiss author and architect Max Frisch. Previously in the possession of German film director Volker Schlöndorff, the Jaguar was given to him by Max Frisch shortly before the latter’s death as a token of gratitude for the filming of the novel Homo Faber. The 1967 Jaguar 420 will be presented by Volker Schlöndorff to the Swiss Museum of Transport on 11 March 2022. The vehicle will then be exhibited on a special island in the Road Transport Hall. On display are valuable original documents from the collection of the Max Frisch Archive.

“It belongs to you now. I won’t be needing it where I’m going. It is particularly suited to driving up to hotels. You’ll find that they always have a room for you …”Max Frisch to Volker Schlöndorff (Volker Schlöndorff: Licht, Schatten und Bewegung. Mein Leben und meine Filme, Munich: Hanser 2008, p. 420, quoted from ETHeritage.)
